New Work on Display; New Series

balancing act by Terri Kern
I am excited to share that I have finished a new piece that is part of my Cincinnati Arts Fellowship Grant work!

The piece is called Balancing Act and was created in two pieces. The lower piece is a tower of books, carved in relief from a single slab of clay and painted with a combination of underglazes and acrylic paints. The top piece is a large black bird, also made from slabs of clay and carved to give definition to the form. It is finished with black matte glaze and underglaze.

Balancing Act is the third piece in a new series that features a bird balanced atop a tower of some kind.

The previous two pieces were painted with acrylic paint and I am really excited about the addition of glazes and underglazes to this new sculptural work. You can come see this piece in a new show that I am in called, March on Women. The show opens this Friday, March 15 with a reception from 5-9pm.  The show is at the Harvest Gallery which is located on the second floor at 216 W. 15 th Street in downtown Cincinnati. If you can stop by, I will be there from  5-6:30pm.
